Yui Maekawa

Legal Assistant

I spent my early years in the big city of Tokyo. When my family relocated to Malaysia, I attended the International School of Kuala Lumpur and learned how to communicate in English. I first came to Canada to study at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario, majoring in Tourism Studies. Upon graduation, I moved to Toronto and worked in a travel agency, helping customers book airplane tickets, hotels, tours, and more. When my work permit expired, I travelled and lived in several different countries, working in hospitality until I decided that Canada was going to be my forever home. This time, however, I aspired to live in the mountains, where I could pursue a passion I had discovered in New Zealand: snowboarding.

I landed in Vancouver and took a Greyhound bus to Banff. There, I worked as a Front Desk Agent for five years and obtained permanent residency through the hotel’s sponsorship. Soon after, I transferred to the Accounting Department within the same hotel group, counting cash, running audits, paying taxes, and processing payroll. After some time, the travel bug returned, and I decided to start ticking places off my bucket list. I packed my backpack and left indefinitely, visiting fourteen countries on a journey I called my “First Retirement.”

When I returned to the Bow Valley in late 2018, I was seeking a career change and joined the firm’s Banff office, then known as Eric Harvie Professional Corporation. Working as a Legal Assistant for the first time, I learned a great deal about the legal industry. I then became a proud mother of two amazing children and took some time to focus on my family. I am excited to be working with Highline Law Office again and now work with both the Banff and Canmore teams.
